Multnomah County Recording Information

REQUIREMENTS FOR REAL PROPERTY DOCUMENTS

• Documents should have a blank space of 4x1.5 inches on the first page. This is reserved for the recording label.

• Documents should be printed or typed in dark ink, 8-point font on paper that does not exceed 8.5x14 inches.

• On the first page of the document, include the name of the transaction, the names and addresses of the person(s) described in the document, and the return address information so that the document can be returned after recording.

• For instruments that convey or contract to convey fee title to real estate and for memoranda of the instruments, the true and actual consideration paid for the transfer is required.

• For instruments that convey or contract to convey fee title to real estate, the tax information is required.

• A mailing address for future tax statements is required on the first page, if applicable to the document.

• If a document does not contain the required information, a cover sheet may be attached. This has to be prepared by the submitter of the document, but does not have to be separately signed or acknowledged.

RECORDING FEES AND PENALTIES

The fee to record a deed (and most other real property documents) is $36 for the first page, and $5 for each additional page. Printing on the backside of a document counts as an additional page.

If a document is missing the space for the recording label, an additional $5 fee will apply. Documents that do not have the required first page information will be charged an additional fee of $20.

For documents that contain more than one transaction (ex: substitution of trustee and deed of reconveyance in one document), an additional fee will be charged.
