StatewideRecording fees are charged per book and page listed where applicable. Oil and gas leases, cancellations, etc.: $25.00 for the first five pages; each oil and gas assignment, amendment of assignment, release, etc.: $25.00 for the first five pages, $18.00 per additional assignee; each additional page $1.00; sectional index entries per section or subdivision lot $1.00; marginal notations on oil and gas documents, if requested, $4.00 per book and page. The chancery clerk itemizes on the original document a fee bill of all charges.

If a check for recording fees is short, the document will be returned with a request for the proper filing fee. If the check for recording is over $5.00, the document will be recorded and the excess deposited into the Chancery Clerk’s Office Fee Account. Refunds are mailed at the end of each month.

StatewideNonessential information including, but not limited to, form numbers or customer notations may be placed in a margin other than the top margin. A document may be recorded if a minor portion of a seal or incidental writing extends into a margin.
StatewideIf the document contains them, the following must appear on the first page below the three-inch margin: the name, physical business mailing address and business or employment telephone number of the preparer, and the name, mailing address and telephone number of every grantor, grantee, borrower, beneficiary, trustee or other party; a return address; the title; any address and telephone number required by § 27-3-51; and the legal description or indexing instruction per § 89-5-33(3). Pages may not be permanently bound or have attachments affixed, but may be stapled together for presentation. Exempt from the format requirements: documents executed before July 1, 2009; military separation documents; documents executed outside the United States; certified copies issued by a court or governmental agency; documents where an original party is deceased or incapacitated; documents formatted to meet court requirements; federal tax liens; UCC filings.

The person offering a document for recording is responsible for making sure it is original, signed with signatures acknowledged before a notary public, complete with the required information, and accompanied by the proper fees and a stamped self-addressed envelope. The clerk's office has no blank forms for land records documents.
