Document Requirements

Confirm current requirements with the recorder's office before submitting documents.

Paper sizeDocuments may be letter or legal size.

If a document does not meet the margin requirements, an additional sheet is added for the recording information, which adds additional recording fees.

StatewideIf sufficient space is not provided for the necessary recording information and certification, that information is placed on an added sheet counted as a page. A document not of sufficient legibility to produce a clear and legible reproduction must be accompanied by an exact copy, recorded contemporaneously and counted as additional pages, and the register of deeds may reject an illegible document (K.S.A. 28-115(e)).

The office asks for a good, clear font and font size, with the entire document clear and legible; copying a previously recorded document for the legal description often does not reproduce well.
