About the Stanly County Recorder's Office

The register of deeds is responsible for recording and maintaining records related to real property in Stanly County.

Recording Fees

These government fees are separate from any Deeds.com service fees. Confirm current charges with the recorder's office.

Deeds and all other documents: $26.00 for the first 15 pages, $4.00 for each additional page

Deeds of Trust: $64.00 for up to 35 pages, and $4.00 for each additional page

Additional (multi-instrument): $10.00

Non-standard documents: $25.00 in addition to recording fees for documents that
are not in compliance with the recording standards.

Effective 10/01/15, an instrument that contains excessive recording data costs $2.00 for each party listed in the instrument in excess of 20.

In addition, excise tax must be included with the filing fee for a deed. Excise stamps are $1 on each $500 or fraction thereof of the consideration or value of the interest or property conveyed, exclusive of the value of any lien or encumbrance remaining on the property at the time of sale.

Fees for Oath of Notary: $10.00

Certified Documents (excludes vitals): $5.00 first page, $2.00 each additional page

Document Requirements

Confirm current requirements with the recorder's office before submitting documents.

Be presented on 8.5 by 11 or 8.5 by 14 inch paper.

Contain a blank margin of at least three inches at the top of the first page, blank margins of at least 1/2 inch on the remaining sides of the first page, and blank margins of at least 1/2 inch on all sides of subsequent pages.

Be typed or printed in black on white paper

Be typed or printed in a legible font no smaller than 10 points (Blanks in an instrument may be completed in pen and corrections to an instrument may be made in pen).

Contain text typed or printed on one side of a page only.

Type of instrument must be stated at the top of the first page below the margin.
Grantor's signature must be properly notarized.

Deeds and Deeds of Trust must show the draftsman's name on the first page of the document.

The grantor must pay the Real Estate Excise Tax at the time of recording. The tax rate is $1.00 per $500 of the purchase price of the real estate.

Deeds must have Tax Certification obtained from the Stanly County Tax Administrator.

This certification must be affixed stamped on the deed prior to recording. (Click here for tax certification Form)
