StatewideCopies of a record or paper: 50 cents for the first page of any document and 25 cents for each subsequent page (MCA 7-4-2631(1)(e)(i)). Of each page recorded, $2 goes to the records preservation fund, 75 cents to the county land information account, and $2.25 to the Montana geospatial information account (MCA 7-4-2637(3)). Beginning July 1, 2027, the Department of Revenue sets the recording fee by administrative rule to adjust for inflation, every two years.
Filings of right to lien, lien releases, construction liens, and lis pendens: $5.00. Financing statements (UCC-1): $7.00; continuations, assignments, partial releases: $5.00; terminations: no fee. Federal liens (IRS), including amendments, corrections, renewals and release: $7.00. Lien search with a written request: $7.00 per name. Subdivision and townsite plats: $25.00 plus $.50 for each lot up to 100 and $.25 for each lot in excess of 100. Certificate of survey: $25.00 plus $.50 per tract or lot. Emailed copies: $2.00 per document in addition to copy fee; mailed copies: $2.00 in addition to copy fee. Large format copies up to 24" x 36": $18.00 first copy, $10.00 additional copies.
Transfer tax

StatewideAt least 1 inch at the top of the second and subsequent pages, at least 1 inch on the bottom of each page, and at least 1/2 inch on the sides of each page. Page numbers, the return name and address, and other administrative information may appear in the margins.
StatewideNames of the parties to the conveyance appear on the first or second page of any document with more than one page, and a document conveying an interest in real property includes a description of the property. Notary acknowledgments are exempt from the color and margin requirements, and an embossed notarial seal is exempt from the margin requirements. Officially certified court or government documents are exempt. Documents acknowledged as executed before April 28, 2007 are accepted as standard documents.
A document which includes highlighting is a non-standard document. A whole document written in cursive is non-standard. A street address or deed reference is not a legal description; the full metes and bounds description, subdivision with lot number, or certificate of survey number must be included. Releases of trust indentures and deeds of trust must have the previously recorded document's book and page, document number, and recorded date. The return name and mailing address go in the upper left-hand corner margin of the first page.
