StatewideCopies of a record or paper: 50 cents for the first page of any document and 25 cents for each subsequent page (MCA 7-4-2631(1)(e)(i)). Of each page recorded, $2 goes to the records preservation fund, 75 cents to the county land information account, and $2.25 to the Montana geospatial information account (MCA 7-4-2637(3)). Beginning July 1, 2027, the Department of Revenue sets the recording fee by administrative rule to adjust for inflation, every two years.

Stock Subscription and Contract, Stock Certificates and Articles of Water Users' Association: $3.00 per page. Military Discharge: no fee. Any other instrument not expressly provided for: the same fee as for a similar service. Filing fees: $5.00 for bills of sale, lis pendens, construction liens, releases of lien, and any other instrument required to be filed. Certificate of Survey: $25.00 plus $0.50 for each tract or lot. Subdivision and townsite plats: $25.00 plus $0.50 for each lot or tract up to 100 and $0.25 for each over 100. Federal tax liens: $7.00. Incorrect fees will result in rejection of documents.

Transfer tax

No transfer tax. None is collected when a document is recorded. (statewide, Mont. Const. Art. VIII, Sec. 17 (CI-105, 2010))

StatewideAt least 1 inch at the top of the second and subsequent pages, at least 1 inch on the bottom of each page, and at least 1/2 inch on the sides of each page. Page numbers, the return name and address, and other administrative information may appear in the margins.

StatewideNames of the parties to the conveyance appear on the first or second page of any document with more than one page, and a document conveying an interest in real property includes a description of the property. Notary acknowledgments are exempt from the color and margin requirements, and an embossed notarial seal is exempt from the margin requirements. Officially certified court or government documents are exempt. Documents acknowledged as executed before April 28, 2007 are accepted as standard documents.
